In November, 2019, FOU collaborated with Words Into Deeds, an Ithaca, NY-based educational program developed by FOU Board member Gertrude Noden, to sponsor a 2-day workshop entitled Teaching Life Skills for Global Citizenship for UNIFAT teachers and administrators plus several students. Forty attendees studied the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Uganda Constitution, comparing the two and relating these to curricular goals for each grade. The same was done for the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being. Participants learned about strategies for introducing these into their classrooms, and then designed projects that would engage their students in community outreach projects (see Mini-Grants, below), thereby helping them gain the skills in working together, problem solving, and service to others that are essential prerequisites for informed, effective citizenship.
